ABOUT ME
(EN) Cleo Veldman's artistic creations revolve around the concept of character-building, a process where she gives life to her imaginative personas through the creating of masked costumes. She portrays them using various media, including video, installation, performance art and photography.
Veldman draws inspiration from the interplay between identity and pop culture references, a language that forms a symbiotic relationship with society. Her work delves into the impact of pop culture portrayals on self-perception, leading to a distorted view of reality. In navigating this terrain, Veldman infuses her art with an uncanny sense of humor, which serves as a lens through which she examines the often strange situations that arise from this distorted worldview.

(NL) De artistieke creaties van Cleo Veldman draaien om het concept van karaktervorming, een proces waarbij ze haar fantasierijke personages tot leven brengt door het creëren van gemaskerde kostuums. Ze portretteert ze met behulp van verschillende media, waaronder video, installatie, performancekunst en fotografie. Veldman haalt inspiratie uit het samenspel tussen identiteit en verwijzingen naar de popcultuur, een taal die een symbiotische relatie aangaat met de samenleving. Haar werk onderzoekt de impact van popcultuur beelden op de zelfperceptie, wat leidt tot een vertekend beeld van de werkelijkheid. Bij het navigeren door dit terrein doordrenkt Veldman haar kunst met een unheimisch gevoel voor humor, dat dient als een lens waardoor ze de vaak vreemde situaties onderzoekt die voortkomen uit dit vertekende wereldbeeld.
