EXPERIMENT WITH SNAILS
2021
Science experiment with snails day 1

“It got out of hand. We need help. The snails are fast and slimy. We hear knocking from the deep. We awaited something ancient. We cannot get out. We cannot get out.

I’m left to my own devices. Running out of slime. Snails. Snails.

Blood and snails. Time’s going at a snails pace. The age of snails has begun. Snails carry their home on their back. And there’s a housing crisis right now. We are their new home. Our skin. Our flesh prison within their world, we’ve brought this ending upon ourselves.

A slimy grave for the landscape that went too fast for our now homeless souls.”

I was invited by Zone Improvement Plan for a residency in the building of the former Men At Work. They matched me with two artists; Timnotsimon and Vuilmasker, based on the kind of work we make. We shared the space with artworks of the artist that came before. During these inspirational weeks, I have created a video installation based on a new kind of human that would emerge out of this housing crisis we are in. This work was on show during the finissage on the last Saturday, alongside several art and music performances.

In the first week we had a talk with Tjesse Riemersma which resulted in a text he wrote for the zine publication. (Documentation of which on the bottom of this page.)
